What is Veganism?
Veganism is the practice of abstaining from the use of animal products, particularly in diet, and an associated philosophy that rejects the commodity status of animals. A follower of the diet or the philosophy is known as a vegan. Distinctions may be made between several categories of veganism.
What does that mean in middle school terms?
Being vegan means you don’t eat or use anything that came from an animal. This means not eating meat, dairy, eggs, or gelatin. It also means not using products like leather, wool, or silk because they come from animals. Most vegans also try to use products that haven’t been tested on animals. It seems hard, but once you know how to look out for those ingredients and learn what you can use as substitutes, it just seems normal.
